Bishop Vesey's Grammar School appoints Baily Garner as lead consultant to provide multidisciplinary services for a long-term estate strategy through the delivery of a new Learning & Resource Centre and refurbishment programme designed to enhance teaching, learning and student wellbeing.

Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School appointed Baily Garner in 2019 as its sole consultancy provider to support the development of a long-term estate strategy focused on capital improvements, cyclical maintenance and future growth. Following a comprehensive condition survey of the school’s buildings and M&E installations, together with an assessment of space requirements using the Department for Education’s Net Capacity Assessment Tool, a phased development plan was established.

A key element of this strategy is the construction of a new three-storey Learning & Resource Centre (LRC), alongside refurbishment works to support Sixth Form expansion and enhance safeguarding measures. The development will provide additional dining facilities, improved toilet provision, expanded ICT and independent study space, and flexible breakout areas for collaborative learning. Baily Garner has provided Project Management and Quality Control Inspector services throughout the delivery of the scheme.

The project is being delivered within a live school environment, requiring careful planning to ensure the safety of pupils and staff while maintaining normal school operations. Additional challenges included a constrained and landlocked site, varying site levels, limited access routes and a lack of available storage space for construction materials.

Working closely with the school, Baily Garner developed a phased delivery strategy to minimise disruption to teaching and learning activities. Construction areas were securely segregated using perimeter hoarding, ensuring pupil safety throughout the works. To address logistical constraints, a just-in-time delivery approach was implemented alongside dedicated traffic management controls, reducing the need for on-site material storage and enabling safe coordination of deliveries within the restricted site environment.

The project remains in the construction phase, with the new Learning & Resource Centre and associated refurbishment works currently progressing on site. Through effective project management, quality assurance and stakeholder coordination, works have been successfully delivered within a live educational setting while maintaining the school’s operational requirements. Once complete, the development will provide modern, flexible learning facilities that support the school’s long-term growth ambitions and enhance the educational experience for current and future students.
