Welcoming Ross Pirie as Studio Lead at Our London Studio

We’re excited to welcome Ross Pirie as the new Studio Lead at our Eltham-based London studio—a move that reflects our continued focus on high-quality design, innovation, and creating lasting positive impact through the built environment.

With extensive experience delivering award-winning residential and commercial projects, Ross brings a bold, people-first vision to this leadership role. His background spans a range of sectors, with a strong emphasis on design excellence and multidisciplinary collaboration, making him a perfect fit for our integrated consultancy model.

“Architecture must be collaborative, socially conscious, and rooted in place,” says Ross. “Our multidisciplinary model at Baily Garner — bringing architects, engineers, surveyors, and sustainability experts under one roof — offers a rare and exciting platform to deliver truly joined-up design solutions.”

Ross’s career began in Aberdeenshire, gaining hands-on technical experience before moving to London in 2014. He honed his design philosophy at JTP (John Thompson & Partners), working across a wide spectrum of residential projects, from student accommodation to large-scale urban regeneration. At Apt (formerly Robin Partington & Partners), he delivered high-profile commercial workspaces, collaborating with other disciplines across the company.

Ross joins us with a clear ambition: to push boundaries in affordable housing and drive even greater alignment between our design work and our social mission.

“There’s a sense of purpose in designing homes for those who may not otherwise have access to quality housing,” he explains. “We have a responsibility to deliver places people are proud to live in, architecture that elevates lives.”

This commitment to people and place sits at the heart of everything we do. Ross’s approach mirrors our long-held belief that high-quality, inclusive design can transform communities.

Championing sustainability, collaboration and innovation

Sustainability is one of our core pillars, and Ross brings deep expertise in embedding it throughout the design journey. Having led sustainability working groups in previous roles, he’s an advocate for passive design strategies, early-stage embodied carbon assessments, and the intelligent use of innovative, low-impact materials.

“Sustainability must be woven into the design narrative from day one,” says Ross, echoing our leadership in shaping a net-zero built environment.

Alongside this, Ross is passionate about fostering our supportive and collaborative team culture. From cross-disciplinary workshops to design charettes, his leadership style is all about empowering others and ensuring the best ideas rise to the top.

“We’re building a studio where ideas are shared, voices are heard, and high-quality design is the norm, not the exception,” he adds.

Looking ahead

Ross’s long-term vision is for Baily Garner Architects to be recognised in its own right, not just as part of a multidisciplinary model. “I want us to be seen alongside the best studios delivering high-quality, affordable housing in the UK. That’s our benchmark.”

For younger architects and designers, his advice is simple:

“Be curious. Ask questions. Challenge assumptions. That’s how we create better places that delight and inspire.”

As we continue to grow our architectural offer, Ross’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter — one focused on architectural integrity, technical excellence, and positive social impact.
