Our commitment towards Net Zero

We recognise the threat climate change poses and how the construction industry contributes notably to the UK’s CO2 emissions, accounting for about 10% of the nation’s total emissions. In 2019 alone, construction-related emissions reached 47 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. However, by 2020, emissions decreased to 11.4 million metric tons, marking a significant 11% reduction. This reduction is largely attributed to advancements in sustainable building practices as the industry shifts towards a greener future.

If we are to contribute to the government’s commitment to ensure the UK reduces its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 100% from 1990 levels by 2050, we need to be doing a lot more. That’s why we have a fully developed Carbon Reduction Plan to reduce our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions as we understand the responsibility we have as a business to do our part in reducing our impact.

At Baily Garner we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment as part of our purpose to positively impact people’s lives. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we want to achieve Net Zero by 2050 and have voluntarily begun assessing our CO2 emissions, despite not being legally required to do so. Our plan to reach this ambitious goal is outlined in a series of three reports which you can download below.

Our goals are:

  • To reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 100% by 2030.
  • To reduce our Scope 3 emissions by 20% by 2030 and by 100% by 2050.

Annual Emissions Report 2024

We are excited to share our first annual emissions report, detailing our progress in reducing carbon emissions throughout 2024. This report provides a comprehensive overview of the actions we’ve taken, the emissions produced, and our strategy to achieve net zero.

Report Highlights:

  • Actions carried out in 2024 to reduce emissions
  • Summary of emissions produced in 2024
  • Comparison of emissions in the baseline year vs 2024
  • Overview of our strategy to reach net zero

Our report uses data from January 1st to December 31st, 2024, following GHG Protocol Guidance. Emissions are grouped into related categories to provide greater insight into the main sources and to create clear links between emissions and corresponding strategy actions.

Carbon Reduction Plan

When bidding for certain contracts, particularly for Central and local government, we are required to submit a Carbon Reduction Plan in a specified format explaining our baseline emissions, our current emissions and our targets. The Carbon Reduction plan also details the emission reductions that have been achieved by specific activities and identifies future carbon reduction activities.
